Overview

Product Introduction

NTDI02 is a Harmony rack I/O termination unit that provides the field signal path for as many as 16 digital I/O points. ABB documentation covers its use with specified Harmony and legacy INFI 90 OPEN / Symphony Enterprise modules.

The board concentrates field terminals, module cable connection, field-power distribution, configurable jumpers and programmable dipshunts on a 7 × 7 in. termination assembly. Selection and setup must follow the I/O module type and the voltage-specific fuse arrangement.

System fit

Compatibility & Replacement

01

The NTDI02 instruction identifies IMASO11, IMDSI13, IMDSI14, IMDSI22, IMDSM04, IMDSO14, IMDSO15 and IMFCS01 as supported modules.

02

ABB states that NTDI02 is fully compatible with existing INFI 90 OPEN and Symphony Enterprise systems.

03

ABB describes NTDI02 as a functional replacement for NTDI01, not a direct replacement. Wiring, dipshunts, jumpers, cable and field-power arrangements must be reviewed before migration.

04

The current Symphony Plus catalog lists the NTDI02 hot-switch termination unit with SPDSI, SPDSO, SPDSM and SPASO families. Treat current and legacy module pairings according to the applicable system documentation.

Maintenance context

Applications & Fault Scenarios

Lost digital point

A group of field inputs or outputs is missing and the module-to-termination cable, fuse or common field-power path must be isolated.

Repeated fuse opening

F1 or F2 opens again after replacement, indicating that the field circuit and selected fuse value require investigation.

Module change

A maintenance team changes the attached I/O module and must re-check all 16 dipshunts and jumpers against the new module instruction.

NTDI01 migration

A legacy NTDI01 position is being evaluated for functional replacement and needs a documented wiring and configuration review.

05

Field practice

Wiring, Configuration & Commissioning

Configure for the module

Set XU1–XU16 and the individual jumpers only from the table for the installed I/O module. A part-number match alone does not establish the correct field circuit.

Separate field-power checks

Confirm the E1 and E2 supplies, polarity or neutral arrangement, and the voltage-appropriate fuse ratings before energizing. F1 and F2 protect separate paths.

Verify the cable path

Inspect the NKTU01 or NKTU11 cable and seat the module P3 connection to NTDI02 P1. Check bent pins, shield routing and cable strain.

Prove every affected point

After installation, commission each used channel from the field device through the controller indication or output. Record any intentionally unused point and its configuration.

Product-specific answers

FAQ

Which I/O modules are documented for NTDI02?

The legacy instruction lists IMASO11, IMDSI13/14/22, IMDSM04, IMDSO14/15 and IMFCS01. The current catalog also lists specified SPDSI, SPDSO, SPDSM and SPASO families.

Is NTDI02 a direct replacement for NTDI01?

No. ABB calls it a functional replacement, so the field wiring, cable, fuse selection, dipshunts and jumpers must be reviewed for the installed module.

How many field signal paths does NTDI02 provide?

The unit provides paths for up to 16 digital I/O signals. The actual use and circuit behavior depend on the paired module and configuration.

What should be checked if an NTDI02 fuse opens repeatedly?

Do not keep replacing the fuse. Isolate the relevant E1 or E2 field circuit, verify voltage and fuse rating, and inspect the field wiring and connected loads for a fault.

Does NTDI02 require a separate mounting panel and cable?

Yes. ABB documentation specifies the NFTP01 field termination panel and an NKTU01 PVC or NKTU11 non-PVC module cable.

What details should an NTDI02 RFQ include?

Send the exact part number, quantity, destination, required date and machine or system model. Add the attached I/O module and field voltage when possible.
