Details

How is it Made?

The production process is as follows:

1. Polymerization: Raw materials (purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and monoethylene glycol (MEG)) are combined to create molten PET polymer.

2. Spinning: The molten polymer is forced through a spinneret (a device like a showerhead) to form continuous filaments.

3. Drawing: The filaments are stretched (drawn) to align the polymer molecules, which increases their strength and tenacity.

4. Crimping: The continuous filaments are crimped (given a wavy texture) to add bulk and help the fibers stick together during spinning.

5. Cutting: The continuous tow (a large bundle of filaments) is cut into short, predetermined lengths—this is what creates the staple fiber.
