SPT Cable is part of Allied Wire & Cable's line of Portable Cord. Meant for household appliances and other light duty applications, SPT Cable can also be called lamp cord or lamp cable because the two conductor construction is easily recognizable as the cord used in lamp wiring. However, SPT cable can also be used in clocks, radios, fans, refrigerators and room cooling units among other things.

There are three types of SPT cable: SPT-1, SPT-2 and SPT-3, each having a heavier construction than the previous. SPT-3 is the newest of the 3, and also the heaviest construction. While SPT 1 lamp cord weighs between 20-21 pounds per thousand feet, SPT 3 lamp cord can weigh 88 or even 100 pounds per thousand feet.

The SPT cable types range in operating temperatures as well. SPT-1 cable is rated to 105°C, and SPT-2 has versions that are also rated to 105°C. However, other SPT-2 cable is rated to 60°C. All SPT-3 cable is rated to 105°C. All three types of SPT cable are rated to 300 volts.
